Dr. David Gundersen grew up in Whitehall. His three years of undergraduate studies were done at Muskegon Community College, Aquinas College and Western Michigan University. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree after four years of study at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 1979. Dr. Gundersen has been married to Kate for 31 years and they have three children, all of whom are attending college. Chris is attending MSU after serving for four years in the U.S. Navy, Emily is currently a senior and Anna is a sophomore, both attending Albion College. The Gundersen’s live in Whitehall. Dr. Gundersen is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association. He has also served on the Whitehall District Schools Board of Education for over seven years.

Dr. Ron Zuker

Dr. Ronald Zuker originally hails from Owosso, MI. He received his undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University and graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1979 where he and Dr. Gundersen decided to become partners. 

Dr. Zuker enjoys assisting patients in better health and vision and enjoys getting to know patients and their families. He is also an active member at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church. His hobbies include computers, video, photography, kayaking and running. Dr. Zuker is married to Vicki and they have two children, Erik a sophomore at Michigan State University and Laura is in 10th Grade at Mona Shores High School. 



Elizabeth began working for Drs. Gundersen & Zuker in Sept. 2006, as an Insurance Biller. Elizabeth earned a Medical Assisting degree in Jacksonville, Florida and returned to school to earn a degree in Computer Networking and Information Systems. Elizabeth loves working with numbers and computers and brings to our practice 13 years of experience in the medical field.  

Elizabeth is married to her best friend and they have 3 children ages ranging from 7 to 16. in her spare time, Elizabeth loves sewing, making jewelry and photographing nature. As a family, the Furtaws enjoy camping, gardening, hiking and all aspects of the outdoors.

Sue M.

Sue began her employment with us in October of 2005. Prior to joining our practice, Sue had been a stay-at-home Mom since her first son was born. Sue has 7 years of prior experience in the Optometric field. She really enjoys having a part in helping people look and see their best.  

Sue and her husband have lived in Whitehall for ten years. They have three children.  

Sue's interests outside of the office include rubber stamping and other paper crafts (she makes her own greeting cards); camping, hiking and kayaking with her family. Sue is also an active volunteer at her children's schools and her church.  



Stephanie joined our practice as an Optometric Assistant in August, 2006. She has worked in the optical field for 14 years and has experience in every aspect of the optical field including billing vision insurance and working in the lab. You could say, "Stephanie has followed in her Mother's footsteps" as her mother has worked in this field for 30 years.  

When we asked Stephanie what she likes about her job, she said interaction with her patients, the friendly staff and how close the office is to her home. (She previously worked in Grand Rapids.) 

Stephanie is an only child and is a life-long resident of Norton Shores. She loves photography and gardening and also enjoys bike riding and walking.

Angie R.

Angie began working for us in August, 2002 as our office Assistant in Shelby. In July, 2003, Angie began a new position with our practice as an Optometric Assistant sharing her duties between our Montague and Shelby offices. Since Angie resides in Oceana county, she knows many of the patients that come into our office. Angie enjoys chatting with them and listening to their stories.  

Angie was born in England and moved to the U.S. in 1983. Her hobbies and interests include teaching, reading, gardening and enjoys going to yard sales and auctions. Angie also works with her Dad at Jim's Quick Lube in Hart. Angie has one daughter.  




Linda was welcomed back to Drs Gundersen and Zuker in July of 2007 after being away for about 7 years. She has been in the optical profession for 20+ years and has experience in many areas in the office. She especially enjoys working with the patients to help them choose their frames. Linda has been in the Muskegon area all of her life. She has 2 children, Monica, age 17 and Kevin, age 15. In her free time she enjoys reading, yard sales, going to the movies and flower gardening. She is looking forward to helping you choose your next pair of glasses.

Pam G.

Pam began her career in the Optical field in 1976, working for her father Dr. Wayne Gillan. In 1986, Drs. Gundersen and Zuker purchased Dr. Gillan's practice and Pam continued in her role as an Optometric Assistant for Drs. Gundersen and Zuker. Pam works in our Montague and Shelby offices.  

When Pam was asked what she enjoys most about her job, she said, the smile on the patient's faces when they put on new glasses or contact lenses and can see better, knowing she played a part in it. Pam also enjoys the challenge of getting really bent frames back in shape.  

Pam graduated from Montague High School, Muskegon Community College and earned a BS degree in Education from Central Michigan University. Pam enjoys spending her spare time with animals (especially dogs and horses), reading, going to the movies, being outdoors (even enjoys snow blowing), participating in and watching sporting events as well as counted cross stitch and knitting.  



Julie is our Optician/Optometric Assistant and has been a part of our practice for over 20 years. Julie has been in the Optical field for over 30 years. She enjoys working with the patients and performing a variety of duties including dispensing glasses and insurance billing. Julie says her job is "never boring". Julie works in our Muskegon office.  

Julie is married to a full time firefighter. They have two daughters. Julie enjoys reading in her spare time.
